Firm News

On Monday, June 1, 2020, Keane & Beane Principal Member Steven A. Schurkman will be a Special Advisor of the 3rd Annual Yonkers Grinton I. Will Library Senior Law Day to be held live on the Yonkers Public Library Facebook Page from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. or at the City of Yonkers website. Steven Schurkman is also the liaison to the Westchester Public Private Partnership for Aging Services.

Due to the ongoing health emergency of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Senior Law Day event scheduled for June 1st at the Will Library has been moved online to ensure that the valuable legal, financial, and medical information from Senior Law Day programming is still available to you!  To help everyone—especially seniors—stay safe and well-informed, that same expert and authoritative guidance from the Senior Law Day Collaborative is now being offered for free on their website in the form of live Webinars.

You can also tune in to the 3rd Annual Yonkers Grinton I. Will Library Senior Law Day on TV Channels – 78 (Cablevision) and 39 (Verizon FIOS) or call Toll-Free Phone: 1.408.418.9388 (Access code 712.797.297; password 9352663).

The Senior Law Day Collaborative is a project in its 21st year to connect the knowledge and energy of attorneys, financial planners, and geriatric care managers from the public and private sectors with anyone looking for advice on important (and sometimes not easy to discuss) topics, such as housing options, wills vs. trusts, ways to pay for long-term care, or how to put your estate in order.

Some other upcoming Webinars offered in English and Spanish include:

  • Webinar: Protecting Your Privacy: Staying Safe While Navigating the Internet | Tuesday, June 9, 10:00 AM
  • Webinar: Guarding Our Elders: A Presentation in Honor of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day | Monday, June 15, 11:00 AM
  • Webinar: Los Estafadores Siguen Los Titulares: Lo Que Debe Saber. Con Que Tener Cuido (Scammers Follow the Headlines: What to Know. What to Beware) | Tuesday, June 18, 1:00 PM
  • Webinar: La Estabilidad De La Vivienda Y La Vivienda Y La Ley De Protección Del Inquilino Del 2019: Lo Que Cada Inquilino Necesita Saber (The Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019: What Every Tenant Needs to Know) | Tuesday, June 23, 10:00 AM

You can find more information about all of these programs at Senior Law Day, as well as recordings of past webinars at 2020 Webinars. You will also find a copy of their annual publication, Elder Law Q&A: An Introduction to Aging Issues and Planning for the Future. You can always ask a question by clicking on the “Ask Me” button that appears on each page.
