In a hard-fought case involving claims of disability discrimination arising from the Plaintiff’s alleged need for workplace accommodations during the COVID-19 pandemic, Keane & Beane Member Edward J. Phillips and Associate George Alissandratos achieved a complete victory for its clients after a 6-day jury trial in Columbia County Supreme Court. The jury rejected the Plaintiff’s claims for constructive discharge, failure to accommodate, and retaliation, which she asserted pursuant to the N.Y.S. Human Rights Law. “The employer had carefully documented its efforts to reasonably accommodate the Plaintiff’s requests, which proved vital to rebutting her allegations,” said Phillips. He added, “our clients were completely vindicated at trial and are thrilled with the jury’s determination.”
Edward Phillips focuses on litigation and dispute resolution in federal and state courts where he has represented businesses, individuals, municipalities, and public officials in a wide range of matters. He has extensive litigation experience defending both private entities and municipal clients. He has represented businesses and individuals in matters involving commercial contracts, shareholder derivative actions, commercial leases, insurance coverage, wage and hour disputes, employment discrimination, and construction defects.
George Alissandratos has led representation of various applicants before land use and zoning boards on both commercial and residential projects, and has assisted in litigating a variety of cases, including principally drafting a successful motion for summary judgment in a case involving a $1.5 billion electric generation facility capable of powering one million homes.
