Join Keane & Beane. P.C., NYS Assemblymember Chris Burdick and Assistant Director of the Committee on Open Government Kristen O’Neill, for a webinar discussion: The End of the State of Emergency and the Start of a State of Confusion: The Return to In-Person Governmental Meetings. Assemblymember Burdick will discuss the status of the pending legislation in Albany to amend the Open Meetings Law.

On June 23, Governor Cuomo announced that he would not be extending the State of Emergency declared on March 7, 2020 to fight COVID-19. As a result, public bodies across NYS are no longer able to conduct virtual meetings pursuant to Executive Order 202.1. All meetings must be conducted in compliance with the NYS Open Meetings Law. Many public bodies are frustrated by the abrupt end of the State of Emergency and unsure how to safely move forward with in-person meetings and transition meetings and public hearings that have already been noticed. This presentation will provide guidance on how public bodies can conduct public meetings under the Open Meetings law in a post State of Emergency world. We have learned a lot this year about technology and the benefits of virtual meetings and we will discuss how public bodies can legally continue to hold virtual meetings. We will also discuss policies your public body may consider to protect the public health and safety at in-person meetings.

Zoom Webinar: Thursday, July 1, 2021 – 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.  RSVP to receive participation link.
