On March 15, 2019, Con Edison’s natural gas moratorium takes effect. After March 15th Con Edison will no longer accept applications for new natural gas connections that increase energy demand, with only a few exceptions. Con Edison has advised that this cut off date will not be extended, despite requests from the development community and elected officials and that, in fact, the cut off date could be sooner than March 15th based upon demand. Therefore, it is necessary that even if your project is just a concept and not yet in the land use approval stage or even a building permit issued, that as long as you know what your energy demand will be, that you file an application ASAP and certainly by no later than March 15, 2019.
