Keane & Beane, P.C. successfully assisted the City of Beacon Police Department (“Beacon P.D.”) in navigating and closing an investigation commenced by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The DOJ investigation resulted in the Beacon P.D. and DOJ entering into an Agreement requiring the Beacon P.D. to review and revise certain rules, regulations, procedures and policies under the DOJ’s oversight. Keane & Beane, P.C. attorneys Lance H. Klein and Eric L. Gordon worked closely with members of the Beacon P.D. to modify the rules, regulations, procedures and policies to satisfy the DOJ’s requirements, while protecting the interests of the Beacon P.D. Messrs. Klein and Gordon also worked with DOJ representatives to address the DOJ’s concerns and respond to various issues. By letter dated August 9, 2016 the DOJ notified the Beacon P.D. that it was in compliance with all the terms of the Agreement and acknowledged that no further oversight was required.
The letter specifically states that the DOJ “appreciates the collective cooperation and willingness of the men and women of the BPD [Beacon Police Department] to adopt the many recommendations made throughout our investigation, and for accommodating our visits to the BPD and our requests for documents during the compliance period.” The U.S. Attorney also recognized that the Beacon Police Department has demonstrated substantial improvement with respect to how it interacts with the citizens of the City of Beacon and others on a day to day basis. Keane & Beane, P.C. is pleased to have assisted in bringing the investigation to a successful conclusion.
