Environmental Law

Keane & Beane represents businesses, developers, individuals, property managers, and municipalities in connection with a variety of environmental issues (including state and federal environmental litigation) and has counseled clients on environmental issues in commercial and real estate transactions. We have extensive experience in negotiating orders on consent with state and federal agencies in several areas, including hazardous waste sites and oil spill sites.  We represent private clients before various land use boards and assist the firm's public and private sector clients in complying with the Comprehensive Environmental Resource Conservation and Liability Act (CERCLA), State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the New York City Watershed Regulations, and other environmental laws.

  • The New York Times Magazine, New York Magazine, Westchester Business Journal and other professional associations and publications have recognized Joel Sachs as a top environmental attorney.  He is the past Chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Environmental Law Section. As an Adjunct Professor at Pace University School of Law, he has taught various environmental law classes for the past 30 years.
  • Nicholas Ward-Willis lectures frequently on land use and environmental issues, including SEQRA, RLUIPA, toxic torts, brownfields and "green" issues.
